Â³Âº        The formation of the band Unisonic marks Michael        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Kiske's full-time return to the land of rock and        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        metal since his formative Helloween years. And          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        this time, he's also brought along good friend,         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        former Helloween bandmate, and Gamma Ray                Âº Â³
Â³Âº        frontman Kai Hansen along for the ride. The two         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        are no strangers to collaboration, as Kiske             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        appeared on both Land of the Free and To the            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Metal!, but this is the first time the two have         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        been featured on an album entirely since Keeper         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        of the Seven Keys Pt. II. While this quasi-             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Helloween reunion has a few familiar flares of          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        speed/power metal, this is by and large a more          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        hard rock/heavy metal outing. But that's no             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        reason for hardcore Helloween and Gamma Ray fans        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        to fret, as this band delivers an album that is         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        fun, fast, and full of good times.                      Âº Â³

Â³Âº        After only a few sporadic appearances with              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Avantasia and Gamma Ray, it is a great feeling          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        to once again hear Michael Kiske's voice with a         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        rock/metal sound again. Twenty-some years               Âº Â³
Â³Âº        removed from his Keeper of Seven Keys glory             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        days, Michael's voice understandably is not             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        hitting the same kind of high notes he once was.        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        But by no means has his voice lost any of the           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        command, power, or familiarity from singing in          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Helloween, and his tenor is still strong and his        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        lower octave is actually more befitting of a            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        hard rock feel than frantic power metal. He also        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        exhibits an excellent vibrato on songs such as          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        My Sanctuary. Kai Hansen takes the duty of lead         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        guitar, and while he's not shredding like fans          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        are used to on Gamma Ray releases, he still             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        provides strong hard rock riffs and the                 Âº Â³
Â³Âº        occasional awesome solo. The instrumentation as         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        a whole is extremely solid and complements              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Kiske's voice well.                                     Âº Â³
Â³Âº                                                                Âº Â³
Â³Âº        As I mentioned before, the songs are more of a          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        hard rock/heavy metal nature rather than speed          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        or power metal, but they are still fast-paced,          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        melodic and catchy. The two most noteworthy             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        tracks are the title track Unisonic and My              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Sanctuary, which are easily the most anthemic           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        and memorable songs on the album. King for a Day        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        has a slower, more grinding feel to it, Never           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Change Me has a slight pop-rock/pop-metal sound,        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        and Star Rider is both hard and emotional. Even         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        the obligatory power ballad No One Ever Sees Me         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        is solid. Though power ballads are always risky         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        to do, as they are seemingly done just for the          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        sake of having one and very rarely stray from a         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        "soft-yet-heavy-as-it-picks-up-but-still-soft"          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        sound, it's still an enjoyable listen and has a         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        meaningful message of the oppression of women in        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        the Middle East.                                        Âº Â³
Â³Âº                                                                Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Unisonic is an enjoyable for listen for anyone          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        who is either a die-hard Helloween and Gamma Ray        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        fan or those who simply like entertaining,              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        fast-paced rock songs. The band has a very              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        promising future and I am interested to see how         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        far they go from here and how they will carry           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        on. This is one of the most solid rock/metal            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        albums I've heard in a long time and while it           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        will not go down as a classic, it will most             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        likely be extremely underrated as well. Very            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        strong performances around, but with guys like          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen, that is to be             Âº Â³
