Â³Âº        It was a much different time in 1989 when the           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        German band Axxis burst onto the scene with             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        their debut disc Kingdom Of The Night. The heavy        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        metal scene was ruled by bands such as The              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Scorpions, Poison and a host of others that             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        filled the airways with a much more radio               Âº Â³
Â³Âº        friendly guitar oriented rock that was based on         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        catchy hooks and anthem like choruses.                  Âº Â³
Â³Âº                                                                Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Axxis is one of the groups that jumped on this          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        bandwagon and have yet to get off! This disc            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        which was the best selling debut album in               Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Germany at the time is filled with all the              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        quintessential trappings you would expect from          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        this kind of band. From the album openers               Âº Â³
Â³Âº        "Living In A World" and "Kingdom Of The Night           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        you get the obligatory fiery anthem like metal          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        that will have the fist pumping and the crowd           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        singing along with the refrain. Lead singer             Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Bernhard Weiss is given the chance to show the          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        right amount of angst with not one but two              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        mandatory power ballads with "Fire And Ice" and         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        "Tears Of The Trees". The rest of the album is          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        filled with songs that fall somewhere in                Âº Â³
Â³Âº        between.                                                Âº Â³

Â³Âº        While the guitar work of Weiss and Walter               Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Pietsch is very good throughout the album and           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        the vocals of Bernhard is as good as most in            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        this genre, the album is one that sounds like it        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        is following the path that others have been down        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        before instead of pushing into any new                  Âº Â³
Â³Âº        territory. This is not necessarily a bad thing,         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        if you like this type of stuff it will remind           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        you of so many other groups that you would be           Âº Â³
Â³Âº        hard pressed not like something on here. I              Âº Â³
Â³Âº        personally like the song "Living In A World"            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        which has a ring of later day Yes to it. The            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        song "Never Say Never" with its galloping guitar        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        is another that I kept coming back to with its          Âº Â³
Â³Âº        Iron Maiden feel.                                       Âº Â³

Â³Âº        It is easy to see why this album did so well. It        Âº Â³
Â³Âº        gives people just what they want without having         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        to delve to deep. This album will bring back            Âº Â³
Â³Âº        memories of music that was less complicated and         Âº Â³
Â³Âº        unpretentious. It was just rock & roll!                 Âº Â³
