Three years after having had º ³ ³º "Motherland" in the record shops it's º ³ ³º "Kingmaker" that offers eleven new melodic metal º ³ ³º songs that can immediately be recognized as º ³ ³º being from Ronnie Atkins and Co.. Atkins typical º ³ ³º vocals, Ken Hammer's riffs and well-done hooks º ³ ³º are belonging to the bands trademarks and they º ³ ³º are all coming back on the new output. º ³ ³º º ³ ³º "Kingmaker" is a continuation of the revitalized º ³ ³º band that had some big-sellers in the eighties, º ³ ³º followed by some tougher times. Since a few º ³ ³º years Pretty Maids is again working full-speed º ³ ³º ahead by releasing records that make a lot of º ³ ³º fun. The mixture of heaviness and melody is well º ³ ³º dosed, something that makes the band interesting º ³ ³º for a wider audience of metal fans. º ³ ³º º ³ ³º The new album starts bold. It's "When God Took a º ³ ³º Day Off" that begins with an intro reminding of º ³ ³º "Cold Killers" from "Red, Hot and Heavy". The º ³ ³º tune itself is a six minutes long power pack, º ³ ³º acting as an excellent way into this longplayer. º ³ ³º º ³ ³º The title track is next in line. Starting with a º ³ ³º powerful riff, the song comes with a mighty º ³ ³º punch - a well chosen name giver for this º ³ ³º record. In general I must say that Pretty Maids º ³ ³º releases all breaks, going straight forward with º ³ ³º a lot of heavy rockers. The grooving "Bull's º ³ ³º Eye", the slowly developing "Civilized Monster" º ³ ³º and the hammering "Sickening" are all real º ³ ³º highlights and 100% Pretty Maids, the latter º ³ ³º coming with an extremely forceful rhythm section º ³ ³º consisting out of Rene Shades (b) and Allan º ³ ³º Tschicaja on drums. º ³ ³º º ³ ³º The counterpart to these riff attacks is a power º ³ ³º ballad called "Last Beauty on Earth". Pretty º ³ ³º Maids can do these kind of songs since for one º ³ ³º or another reason they never sound bad, even º ³ ³º though they are pretty much mainstream.
